Hi I'm Gemma

Here to support you on your training journey

Whether you've got a new puppy and you'd like to get your training off to a great start, or you've got an older dog with a particular struggle, I can help.

My story

I started Sussex Canines in 2019. My Hungarian Vizsla, EB, and I love exploring the South Downs together and going for walks along sandy beaches. After a diagnosis of Rheumatoid Arthritis caused me to give up full-time work it was the perfect time to revisit my dream of working with dogs and Sussex Canines was born! I enjoy helping owners gain a better understanding of their dog and seeing their partnership go from strength to strength.
My passion is to give dog owners, like yourself, the knowledge to work with your dog instead of against them and to set you both up for success.
Through reward based training I can help you with dog training struggles such as pulling on the lead, not coming back when called, puppy biting and jumping up.
I am personally interested in ways to rear dogs as naturally as possible including raw feeding and reducing the use of chemical remedies. I am happy to support owners who wish to give their dog a more natural life, however this should still be done in conjunction with advice from your veterinarian.

What my clients have to say

Gemma is amazing at what she does! She's really helped with our rescue Patterdale terrier especially with concentrating! We started off with a 1 2 1 at our home so we could discuss his behaviour there and gave us some great tips. We then spent the last 5 weeks attending the dog classes she does in Hassocks. Really friendly and a nice way to train your dog, Frankie loves the classes and always tired after all the fun he has there! Highly recommend!

Sussex Canines is ace! The classes in Hassocks are brilliant and have been really good for getting our cockerpoo well socialised with other dogs, as well as learning all the essentials but at our pace and in such a calm atmosphere. We learn lots every week and leave with plenty to work on. Gemma is always at the end of the phone or email for any extra questions that crop up or any help you need. The zoom sessions during lockdown have been so useful too. I’m really grateful I found Sussex Canines, and we’ve really benefitted from Gemma’s expertise so far. I would thoroughly recommend.
