Top Tips to Keep Your Dog Cosy in Cold Weather

 Back to blog
As we bundle up for the chilly season, it’s important to remember our four-legged friends need extra care too. Here’s a handy list of tips to ensure your pup stays safe and warm during those cold days.

Dog Coats

Not all dogs are built for cold weather. Short-haired breeds, seniors, and puppies might need an extra layer. Consider a snug, weather-appropriate dog coat for those frosty walks.

Fuel for Warmth

In cold weather, dogs will burn extra energy to stay warm. Ensure they have access to fresh water and consider slightly increasing their food intake if you see them losing weight.

Beware of salt and grit

Salt and grit on roads and pavements can be harsh on your dog’s paws and be harmful if they lick it off their paws when they get home. Wipe their feet with a warm cloth after walks to remove these irritants.

Cosy Resting Spots

Ensure your dog has a warm, draft-free place to rest. Elevated beds or cosy blankets can help keep them off cold floors.

Limiting Outdoor Time

Monitor the time your dog spends outside. Extremely cold temperatures can be dangerous. If it’s too cold for you, it’s probably too cold for your dog (unless you have a Husky!).
Remember, every dog is unique, so tailor these tips to your dog’s needs. Stay warm and enjoy the winter wonderland with your furry friend!
