Hi, I'm Gemma

I’ve loved dogs for as long as I can remember. I grew up around a local dog club my aunt helps to run, and it sparked a lifelong interest in training. She still teaches there today.

 

Life took a turn when I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, and I stepped away from work for a time. That’s when Mango and EB came into focus even more — and when I discovered just how special scent work could be.

Scent work gave me something I could enjoy with my dogs no matter how I was feeling. It’s accessible for both dogs and people, even on days when energy or mobility is limited.

 

Watching my dogs light up as they searched showed me how natural and rewarding it is for them. It’s not just about finding a scent — it’s about teamwork: handlers learning to read their dog’s body language, and dogs finding their own way to communicate back.

 

For EB, now 11 years old, scent work has been a way to keep her mentally and physically engaged without straining her body. For me, it’s been a way to deepen my bond with both of my dogs and to connect with others who love seeing their dogs thrive.

Today, as a Gold UK Sniffer Dogs Instructor, I get to share that same joy with others. I love seeing dogs and their people grow in confidence together — and coming up with new challenges to keep every class fun and rewarding.
